Ruapuna Speedways 2011-12 Spanz Championship Allocations
Several years of disappointing returns at the Speedway Promoters Association conference came to an end today when Ruapuna was allocated the 2011-12 New Zealand Sprint Car Championship, which is sure to be the centre piece of the Ruapuna Speedway's 50th anniversary. The track has staged the title on 15 previous occasions, and club officers were bitterly disappointed not to be allocated the event for the past season. The new track grading system saw Ruapuna miss out on the New Zealand Midget Car Championship, a meeting long overdue back in Christchurch however part of the criteria for being elible for national titles includes a minimum of ten cars at atleast three meetings in the season that the allocations are done. Last season Ruapuna's best roll out of Midget Cars was nine- on those three occasions.

Sprintcarworld NZ is deeply saddened by the passing of a great racer Jesse Hockett. All we know is that he was electrocuted by the winch in his shop. Jesse was a class act and true competitor. He was only 26.

O'connor Takes Out Winged Thunder 3
The main reason for my trip to the Manawatu this Easter was to attend Winged Thunder 3 at this private speedway track next to Ohakea Air Base, 20 mins from Palmerston North. With a record 30 winged warriors filling the paddock area and over half of them with open headers, this meeting was truly going to be great. The whole area is like a western theme from the states which makes this event very very special for all speedway fans.
